Calderon Textiles Gets $3M to Build New Products
Textiles company Calderan, which makes clothing for high-end brands like Louis Vuitton and Chanel, is announcing it is building a $3 million facility in San Diego to create new products and to build a new manufacturing facility in Arizona to further grow the business.
The new factory will be located in the San Diego area, said Chris Clements, vice president of marketing for Caldera, a textile and apparel company that is based in California.
Clements said the company will hire about 30 workers and build out a manufacturing and distribution facility.
The San Diego facility will also house Calderas own high-tech manufacturing facility, said Clements.
“We are investing in technology, new technologies and a lot of manufacturing capacity,” Clements told Wired.
“That will enable us to grow faster and faster and be more competitive in the apparel space.”
The company has been growing quickly over the last decade.
It recently signed a new deal to build another facility in Austin, Texas, which is about 50 miles north of San Diego.
It also plans to build an expanded factory in Los Angeles.
The company said that the new facility will be ready to go in mid-2019.
Calderans new factory and expansion in Arizona will be the largest manufacturing expansion it has ever had, Clements added.
The business has been operating under the name Calderal Textiles since it was founded in 2007, and it has been a success, Cools said.
The firm’s products have been used in everything from clothing to accessories and bedding, Crickson said.
“It’s the right time for us to expand the business to Arizona and to get into the high-fashion market.”
The new manufacturing facilities will be part of a new strategic partnership between the company and the Arizona Economic Development Authority.
The Arizona Economic development Authority is looking to create a new local apparel manufacturing market and to bring manufacturing and product distribution to the state.
“Arizona is a great place for business and technology, and we look forward to working with our partners and community partners to make Arizona a great textile and textile manufacturing state,” said Arizona Economic Director Michael J. DeFilippo in a statement.
The economic development authority also is partnering with the San Antonio-based American Apparel Co., a manufacturer of apparel, accessories, and other consumer products, to create jobs.
“The Arizona Economic Growth Authority and the San Carlos-based company American Apparels are pleased to partner with the State of Arizona on a number of innovative economic development projects,” the statement said.
The Arizona Business Alliance is a nonpartisan organization that helps small businesses and small-business owners in Arizona.
The association’s board will meet on Thursday to discuss the project.
